About Southern Country Houston

Southern Country Houston, founded in 1991, is a country/western dance organization in southeast Texas. As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, we have a great time while we work to support other local charitable organizations through dance workshops, community service, and fundraising activities. Although we exist to provide a comfortable and safe place for GLBT people, we do not discriminate--everyone is welcome. Southern Country Houston is a leader in community service in the southeast Texas area.

Southern Country Houston has been a proud member club of the International Association of Gay/Lesbian Country Western Dance Clubs (IAGLCWDC) since the Association's inception in 1993. As a full-member club of the IAGLCWDC, Southern Country Houston has voting rights at the general membership meetings and is eligible to participate in all activities and committees. Contact your IAGLCWDC delegate for more information.

The stated purpose of the IAGLCWDC is "To promote country western dancing, activities and music to all persons without regard to age, sex, gender or gender identity, religion, national or cultural origin, sexual orientation, disability or HIV status."

Dance Lessons with SoCoHo

We offer free dance lessons on Thursday evening at the Brazos River Bottom (the BRB) at 2400 Brazos St in Houston. Join us from 8-10:30PM. You don't need a partner—just a good attitude!

We usually teach a line dance during the first hour and a couples' dance during the second hour. For the couples' dances, we begin with the basics on the first Thursday of the month: body positioning, frame, basic technique and basic steps. As the month progresses, we add on to the basic steps and by the end of the month, you have a nice dance pattern to bring to the floor the next time you go out dancing.

3 reasons Country Western & Country Dancing may be for you.

Reason #1: Country Western & Country Dancing is easy to learn! Best of all lessons are FUN & FREE every Thursday (Thirsty Thursdays) starting at 8:00PM at the BRB.
Reason #2: Southern Country Houston is open to everyone who enjoys dancing. Everyone is welcome, regardless of skill level, from beginner to advanced dancers.
Reason #3: Everyone is welcome to dance with Southern Country Houston whether you choose to join the group as a member or just like to dance with us.
